Course Description:
The Buddha taught a path to freedom from compulsion. Over four online evening sessions and one day-long online retreat, we will explore connections between the Buddha's teachings and the path of recovery from addiction. We will look at correlations between the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, and the 12 Steps. Besides making these connections, this program will offer mindfulness meditation instructions that will support your recovery and will cultivate an experiential understanding of the Buddhist teachings. Together we will learn how to apply meditation practice to overcoming addictive craving and negative self-talk, and toward increasing emotional balance.
This program culminates in a day-long online retreat, where we will meet together and apply the practices we have learned over the four weeks in a formal retreat setting. By offering the program online, participants will have the opportunity to practice at home and to establish a mindfulness practice that is integrated in their daily living environments.
Please note that this program is not meant to be a substitute for an addiction support group or treatment, but a support to those on the path of recovery from addiction.
