Meet the Kuan Yin Dharmas: Bringing the Mahayana and Theravada into Harmony

The teachings of Kuan Yin Bodhisattva, the Greatly Compassionate One Who Listens at Ease to the Sounds of the World, offer a multi-dimensional medicine for healing the body, calming the mind, liberating the heart, and protecting the planet from the universal poisons of greed, hatred, and delusion. Understanding the Kuan Yin Dharmas integrates the classic wisdom and compassion teachings of the Theravada with the Mahayana ideal of the Bodhisattva; the two schools interweave, each sharing fundamental elements of the other. In this retreat we explore how the two great traditions mutually support us in our quest for individual freedom and collective healing in a world beset with myriad intersecting crises. We will explore the Four Noble Truths and the Four Vows, the Anapanasati Sutta (Mindfulness of Breathing), the Mula Sutta and Kuan Yin’s appearance in the Lotus, Surangama, and Heart Sutras. Some of the themes will include the power of mantra, holding a sacred name, turning the mind to the deathless, the cultivation of the boundless hearts, and awakening to the non-dual suchness of reality.

Program Format: There will be Dharma talks, chanting, guided meditation, silent meditation, bowing practice, ceremony, large group discussion, and chi kung.
