Financial Assistance

BCBS is committed to keeping its offerings available to all. Thanks to our generous donors, we are able to provide a sliding scale of program fees and offer financial assistance to those who need it.

Requests for financial assistance may be made in the registration process.

Many people in our community use supported pricing or financial assistance. You do not need to justify your circumstances or explain why you need help. Please choose the option that makes participation possible for you.

Sliding-Scale Pricing

Most BCBS programs offer several pricing options. Please choose the highest rate that works within your budget.

Benefactor
Covers the full cost of the program and includes a tax-deductible contribution to support others.

Actual Cost
Covers the full cost of the program.

Partially Supported
Some programs offer a partly subsidized rate.

Supported
Our most subsidized rate.

All rates provide the same program experience.

No one participating in the program will know which rate you chose.

Subsidized rates require no application, explanation, or proof of financial need.

These lower rates are made possible by the generosity of the BCBS community.

Financial Assistance

If the Supported rate is beyond your means, financial assistance is almost always available and can be requested during registration.

How It Works

  1. Indicate that you are requesting financial assistance on the registration form.
  2. Choose the type of financial assistance that applies to you:
    • Young Adult (ages 32 and under)
    • BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color)
    • General Assistance
  3. Choose the level of financial assistance you need: 30%, 40%, 50%, or more than 50% off.

Financial assistance is deducted from the Supported rate and applied automatically during registration.

If you select More Than 50% Off, you will be asked to tell us how much you can afford to pay. We will do our best to make participation possible.

Financial circumstances change. You are always welcome to choose the option that works for you now. We do not want cost to prevent you from participating in a BCBS program.

Dāna and Generosity

Teacher Dāna

Program fees do not include compensation for the teachers. In keeping with the tradition of freely offering the Buddhadharma, our teachers offer BCBS programs in a spirit of generosity.

Participants have an opportunity to join in this practice by offering dāna in support of the teacher. Many of our teachers rely substantially on dāna for their livelihood, and for some, it is their sole source of income.

There is no required amount of teacher dāna. Please give only what feels appropriate within your circumstances. Choosing a supported rate or receiving financial assistance does not create any expectation that you offer dāna.

Dāna-Based Programs

Each year, BCBS offers several programs freely in the Buddhist tradition of dāna (generosity), making the teachings available regardless of financial circumstances.

This reflects our belief that wisdom and compassion are gifts to be shared, and that access to the Dharma can be sustained by a community rooted in generosity. Rather than charging a set program fee, we invite participants to take part in this practice by offering what they can afford.

Participant dāna helps sustain these programs and allows BCBS to continue offering teachings in this way. There is no required amount. Please give only what feels appropriate within your circumstances. Your participation does not depend on how much you are able to offer.
