Emptiness—the lack of intrinsic existence in all phenomena—points to its liberated, perfect, boundless nature. Seeing emptiness is a seeing that frees, deeply and profoundly.
In his book, Seeing That Frees, Rob Burbea articulates a path leading from the foundations of Insight Meditation to the liberating insight of emptiness. He offers a simple method that invites subtle and skillful practice. Instead of the inert way of relating to experience as “simply there,” we are invited to perceive in ways that diminish suffering and to let go of the perceptual constructions that maintain dukkha. This practice, liberating and joyful in itself, may also reveal something of the constructed, flexible, empty nature of experience, inviting us to see freedom in all things.
The retreat will be held by a teacher trained and authorized by Rob Burbea to teach the approaches and practices found in Seeing That Frees.
Program Format: The balance of silence and instruction on this retreat will be similar to that of an Insight meditation retreat, with most of the day dedicated to silent practice of sitting and walking, supported by instructions, guided meditations, and Dharma talks.
