To the BCBS community:
Over these last days and weeks, we have carefully monitored the developing coronavirus situation, and considered how the practice of non-harming may offer guidance for right action. While there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at BCBS, and there is no suggestion that the virus has directly affected our community to date, we are aware that the close togetherness here at the study center is problematic in this environment.
Given the seriousness of the virus, and the increased health risk to certain populations, we have concluded that the best way to reduce potential harm is to suspend our residential courses as of Sunday, March 15th through April 23rd. For some of these courses we are going to offer a lower cost, online version through Zoom.
If you are registered for a residential course between now and April 23rd, we will be in touch shortly by email. We will offer you a spot in an online alternative if we have one or extend a full refund. If you would prefer to donate your registration fee to BCBS, please send an email to contact@buddhistinquiry.org stating your preference; your contribution will help support our staff and center during this unprecedented closure.
We have cancelled our young adult retreat and are considering online alternatives for Zen Poetry, Chris Crotty’s Ethics on the Buddhist Path course, and Leigh Brasington’s jhana retreat. We are also developing other online talks and seminars to offer so that you can study and practice with others from the safety and comfort of home. Details will be coming soon.
Our hearts go out to all those who are affected by this pandemic. What a lesson in interconnectedness this is—and what an opportunity for taking good care of one another. Please be safe and we look forward to seeing you at BCBS again soon.
With love and care,
Richard Henning
