In the Buddha’s Presence: Individuality and Liberation

Traditional Buddhist teachings often emphasize the universal aspects of the human experience. This study-retreat offers a different approach by providing a "person-centered" perspective on the Dharma. Drawing from the rich Early Buddhist literary tradition, we will explore the diverse personalities of the Buddha’s contemporaries, exploring their stories, their talents, and challenges on their spiritual journeys.

These stories also offer an intimate glimpse into the temperaments, inclinations, and psychological patterns of some of the first practitioners. They chart these individuals' paths and demonstrate how the Buddha and his disciples responded to their unique needs and dispositions.

Program Format: This study retreat for practitioners will include two daily study blocks framed by silent meditation with presentations, small group work, and large group discussions.

Noble Silence:

Noble silence will be observed following each evening session through breakfast the following morning.

Experience Level:

Suitable for beginning and experienced practitioners.
