Awakening Joy in Ordinary Life

Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep

choosing it every day. – Henri Nouwen

Joy–pīti in Pali– is one of the seven factors of awakening and a quality of heart that is universally appreciated.  Though seldom deliberately cultivated, we like joy when it shows up but don’t prioritize bringing it forward. Yet we need moments of joy, especially these days, it seems!

Joy need not be dramatic or ecstatic. It hides in plain view in the ordinary moments of our daily lives. Rooted in the teachings of mindfulness and compassion, this retreat invites participants to discover how everyday experience can reveal a wellspring of joy, wonder, gratitude, and appreciation.

Held within a container of silence and supported by a collective of spiritual friends, we will gather to practice together. Through Dhamma talks, guided meditation, mindful movement, contemplation, and mindful speaking and listening, we will explore softening the habitual patterns of rushing and striving, while reconnecting with the quiet, luminous vitality of the present moment.

Program Format: This retreat will include Dhamma talks, guided meditation, mindful movement, contemplation, and mindful speaking and listening.
