In Memory of Larry Ward

Dear friends,

Beloved BCBS teacher Larry Ward passed away on August 19, 2025. Larry carried a quiet yet powerful presence. Being with him often felt like sitting beside an ancient tree, deeply rooted, weathered by many seasons, holding it all with equanimity and a twinkle of loving mischief in his eye.

Even through the health challenges of recent years, Larry showed up with his partner, co-teacher, and co-conspirator Peggy. Together, they shared teachings drawn from vast wells of energy. Grounded in deep study, a lifetime of practice, and broad experience, his teachings spoke to our most profound existential questions and bridged the social and the individual with clarity and compassion.

We—his students, colleagues, and friends—will miss Larry’s laugh, his provocative questions, his wisdom, and his care.

For more on Larry’s remarkable life, we invite you to read the obituary from the Lotus Institute, which he and Peggy co-founded.

In remembrance,

William Edelglass
Director of Studies
Barre Center for Buddhist Studies
