A Letter from the BCBS Staff: The Small Moments We Love

A Letter from the BCBS Staff: The Small Moments We Love

Dear friends,

Melissa generously writes a letter to our community every month. When it came time for this month’s letter, she was away on silent retreat, and we couldn’t be happier to support her in taking this time for practice. It’s especially meaningful because, although she has sat many retreats, this was her first in her native language of French.

So while Melissa was quiet, we thought we’d fill in for her.

We asked one another a simple question:

What are your favorite small moments at BCBS?

Here are a few of the things that make this place feel like home to us.

Cam:
I love eating lunch outside, surrounded by the trees, the quiet, and the beautiful statues, both large and small, that grace the campus. Being able to eat in such a peaceful and contemplative environment is such a privilege.

Susie:
Walking between the Farmhouse and the Dharma Hall, I’m often delighted, surprised, and grateful for the beauty and wonder of this place: chipmunks scrambling along the stone walls, baby bunnies munching on tufts of grass, birds landing on nearby branches, and the gentle rustle of the leaves.

Ryan:
It’s so beautiful here, and I love all the wildlife. Baby deer have been prancing around behind their mom, and the baby foxes have been wrestling. It feels a little like living in a fairy tale, and even on harder days, seeing them lifts my spirits.

Maija:
My favorite small moments at BCBS are the smiles and laughter shared with colleagues. Being afforded time in the workday to pause and talk, not just to “talk shop,” but to share glimpses of our lives and thoughts, is such a gift. The staff here are incredibly kind, curious, and supportive, and I’m grateful for their presence.

Shawn:
As a remote staff person, my favorite small moments are connecting with other staff online, especially those I don’t usually work with. It takes me right back to being on the land at BCBS: the crispness of the morning air and the gentle sounds of folks eating breakfast.

Erin:
Every time I’m here, I feel blessed by love and abundance: nature, heart-centered people, and a culture that uplifts healing, wholeness, and joy. So grateful.

These moments are small, but together they’re part of what makes BCBS what it is: the land, the practice, the laughter, and the people we get to share it all with.

We hope Melissa had a beautiful retreat, and we’re very happy to welcome her back.

With mettā,
The BCBS Staff
