A Hand-Carved Gift from Scott Silver

We recently received a beautiful surprise from a former working guest, Scott Silver, who stayed with us in February 2024. Scott was warm, friendly, and incredibly generous. During his time here, he was always ready to jump in wherever help was needed and happy to be part of the daily rhythm of life at BCBS. Since he’s local, we’ve been fortunate to see him again on several volunteer occasions.

Scott recently brought us a hand-carved wooden sign featuring the BCBS logo. It’s a stunning piece of craftsmanship—and even more than that, it reflects the spirit he brought to his time here: thoughtful, wholehearted, and deeply connected to the teachings.

In his own words:

“I was inspired to carve this sign by the gratitude I felt for the time I spent at BCBS as a working guest. During my stay, I spent a lot of time walking in the woods and listening to recorded dharma talks by Joseph Goldstein. He often mentions the incredible lasting power of the teachings, with the dharma wheel being set in motion at Deer Park 2,600 years ago. I really love the BCBS logo—it embodies this timeless aspect of Buddhism so well. I wanted to carve this sign to commemorate what was a life-changing experience for me.”

We’re deeply grateful to Scott for his time, generosity, and this beautiful gift, which now stands as a tangible reminder of the spirit of community, gratitude, and devotion that continues to shape life at BCBS.
