Access to Insight

Access to Insight: Transition Notice

Access to Insight has served as a widely used collection of early Buddhist texts for nearly three decades.

The site now runs on aging technology, and we do not currently have the technical or financial capacity to modernize it. As a result, occasional outages or service interruptions may occur.

We are actively exploring responsible next steps, including the possibility of transferring stewardship to a credible organization or securing funding to update and stabilize the platform.

Beginning in 1996, John Bullitt worked with Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu to publish translations from the Pāli Canon. Over time, more than 1,000 suttas were added, most translated by Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu. After the site was closed to new input, he gathered, revised, and standardized his translations on Dhammatalks.org, where they now serve as the authoritative versions for study and citation.

Continuing Your Study

When outages occur, we encourage practitioners to continue their study of the early Buddhist texts at the following comprehensive, actively maintained resources:

Dhammatalks.org
Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu’s continually updated collection of translations
https://www.dhammatalks.org/suttas/

SuttaCentral
An international project offering early Buddhist texts in Pāli and many modern languages
https://suttacentral.net/?lang=en

Both sites provide robust search tools, reliable editions, and ongoing editorial maintenance.

With Gratitude

Access to Insight has served generations of practitioners around the world. We are deeply grateful to John Bullitt for his years of devoted care, and to Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu for his work in making the Buddha’s teachings freely available.
