Giving Care, Taking Care: Joy and Mindfulness for Mental Health Professionals

This retreat is offered for mental health professionals familiar with mindfulness practice. We will explore the application of the Dharma and mindfulness to our work with patients, to the therapeutic relationship, clinician self-care, and broader issues of the nature of suffering and its alleviation through the pathways of psychotherapy and Buddhist psychology. Through silent practice, instruction and presentations, discussion, play, creative activities, movement and music, we will cultivate – and draw upon – the community of practitioners to grow in our capacity for understanding and compassion.

Program Format: This retreat will include guided and silent meditation, lecture, dharma talks, large and small group discussions, relational exercises, movement, and creative activities.

Noble Silence:

This program includes dedicated periods of both wise speech and noble silence. In addition to some contemplative exercises involving mindful speaking and listening, there will be periods when participants are able to speak freely.

Experience Level:

Suitable for intermediate and advanced practitioners.

Prerequisites:

Priority will be given to members of IMP, and those who have completed the Certificate Program in Mindfulness & Psychotherapy. Remaining openings will be offered to psychotherapists or other mental health professionals who have a foundation in meditation practice.
