Pāli Introductory Session (Freely Offered)

Join Oliver Tanner on Monday, March 16, from 7:00–8:30 PM ET for a free introductory session. Begin learning Pāli with an experienced teacher, Buddhist scholar, and longtime practitioner.

In this session, Oliver will explain the benefits of learning Pāli as the closest linguistic access to the direct words of the Buddha. He will outline how the weekly classes will be conducted and guide participants through a live group translation of short sutta passages, focusing on key words and basic structure. No prior knowledge of Pāli is required. Oliver will also introduce useful free online resources that make learning Pāli more accessible.

Despite their complex historical development, the Pāli texts are widely regarded as the most ancient and reliable records of the Dhamma, and studying them in their original language brings students as close as possible to the Buddha’s teachings as they have been transmitted.
