The Two Wings of Attention: Integrating Concentration and Mindfulness

While concentration and mindfulness are core elements of attention, there is often confusion about the distinction between them and also about their purpose and function.

For example, how much concentration is necessary for insight to arise, and what exactly is meant by 'right mindfulness'? Is it useful to go straight to open monitoring? How do concentration and mindfulness work in harmony with one another?

During this program we will explore these questions and offer practices which honor and support the integration of these modes of attention. We will explore a variety of meditation instructions and guided meditations. Periods of teaching will alternate with sitting and walking meditation. There will also be time for group discussion and dyadic mindful speaking and listening exercises. Noble silence will be observed except as specified by the instructors.
