Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre, Massachusetts is a renowned Buddhist retreat center offering silent meditation retreats rooted in the Theravāda tradition. Founded by Sharon Salzberg, Joseph Goldstein, and Jack Kornfield, our friends at IMS provide a supportive environment for cultivating mindfulness, ethical living, and the path of liberation through deep practice.
Two of IMS’s founders, Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg, also co-founded the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies (BCBS) in 1991. While IMS and BCBS share roots and support each other, they are now two separate organizations that operate independently.
