Position Summary
BCBS seeks a dedicated and highly organized Retreat Center Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our residential retreat center. This role ensures the campus remains clean, orderly, and welcoming for all guests, teachers, and staff.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Retreat Center Manager works closely with the Program Management Team, Facilities Manager, and Kitchen Manager to coordinate campus operations and provide a high-quality retreat experience. The ideal candidate is service-oriented, team-minded, and skilled at managing people and systems in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Retreat & Housekeeping Operations
- Maintain retreat facilities for all residential programs and events
- Lead turnover days to reset and ready the retreat center for incoming guests
- Oversee and participate in all aspects of housekeeping operations, including supply inventory, laundry, waste removal, and room and common-area cleaning
- Conduct regular room checks to uphold cleanliness standards
- Coordinate retreat space setup with the Program Team, including classrooms, dharma hall, and teacher materials
- Support tech setup and sound checks
- Support Opening/Closing Days in collaboration with the program management team
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise and schedule housekeeping staff and volunteers
- Train new staff and volunteers in cleaning standards and retreat hospitality
- Assign tasks and ensure high-quality housekeeping service
Guest Experience & Retreat Support
- Prepare guest rooms and retreat spaces before each program
- Provide onsite support for guest needs and facilities concerns during retreats
- Act as a point of contact during emergencies or unexpected situations
- Respond to post-retreat feedback regarding comfort and cleanliness
- Embody BCBS values of mindfulness, service, and hospitality
Facilities Coordination & Budgeting
- Manage the garden to produce fresh flowers and create a beautiful outdoor environment
- Track housekeeping costs, manage supply purchases, and support budgeting
- Partner with the Facilities Manager on projects and routine maintenance
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and accessibility standards
- Promote sustainable practices across retreat operations
- Oversee recycling systems
Ideal Qualifications
- Commitment to creating a warm, welcoming, and peaceful retreat environment
- Excellent attention to detail, with dedication to maintaining high standards of cleanliness, comfort, and presentation throughout the center
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to lead a team with clarity, kindness, and accountability
- Flexible and adaptable, with a calm and grounded presence under pressure
- Comfortable with physical tasks, including cleaning, lifting, and carrying heavy items
- Previous experience in hospitality, retreat centers, or residential program settings preferred
- Familiarity with Buddhist communities or a sincere interest in Buddhist teachings is a plus
