Three Facets of Investigation: Patterns, Processes, and Moments of Presence

Whether in daily activities or in meditation, we can understand experience in multiple ways. Participants in this retreat will practice a variety of forms of investigation. The first is the study of mental habits and tendencies, the examination of how we frame experience in similar ways over and over again. The second is a process view, exploring how experience can be seen to unfold, with one moment referencing another. The third is momentary presence, discovering the specific conditions that are observable together at a particular point in time and observing the lack of self in it. By examining experience through three different lenses, we can become more clear about and more responsive to what we observe. This retreat will be grounded in suttas from the Aṅguttara Nikāya and the Saṃyutta Nikāya exploring the  āsavas, aggregates, and dependent origination.

Program Format: This retreat will include silent and guided meditation, chanting, Dhamma talks, presentations in the classroom, and small and large group discussions.
