Barre Center for Buddhist Studies seeks an experienced, efficient, and energetic cook to occasionally assist in planning and preparing vegetarian meals for 25-45 people who attend programs at our residential study and retreat center. Working closely with the Kitchen Manager and other Cooks, the Per Diem Cook will work occasional support shifts when needed, including some evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Follow recipes to prepare tasty and nutritious vegetarian meals on time
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and efficient kitchen workspace
- Train and support retreatants in kitchen tasks
- Other duties as necessary and/or assigned by the Kitchen Manager
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of professional cooking experience with organic whole-food ingredients
- Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize multiple tasks with flexibility and good humor
- Flexibility in scheduling, including the ability to work some evenings and weekends
- Ability to remain calm under kitchen pressure, and the ability to work compassionately with retreatants
- Strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to take direction; ability to function well as a team player
The Per Diem Cook is paid an hourly rate of $19/hour.
