"One who sees dependent co-origination sees the dhamma; one who sees the dhamma, sees dependent co-origination." (MN 28) This teaching of paticca-samuppada and its implications of the interdependence of phenomena is the heart of the Buddha's wisdom teachings. It is often described as a chain of twelve links—which we will look at in detail. But it is a far deeper teaching as well. We will look at both how the teaching of dependent co-origination informs the Buddhist worldview in fundamental ways, as well as how the universe of our human perception and cognition is a profoundly general case of "streams of dependently originated phenomena interacting." The weekend will consist of discussion of sutta passages and formal meditation.
