This study-practice program will be based on the newly-translated Manual of Insight by Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw. Venerable Mahasi is considered one of the grandfathers of modern Vipassanā movement having taught Anagarika Munindra and Sayadaw U Pandita, both of whom have had significant influence upon the unfolding of mindfulness and Insight practice in the West. This program will use significant selections from five chapters in the Manual of Insight for an overview of these teachings: preparations for practice; practical guidance for development of insight; conventional and empirical views of reality; momentary collectedness of mind suitable for insight; and progression of insight knowledges. The daily schedule will include periods of sitting and walking, classroom presentation and discussion of selected topics, a formal Dhamma talk, and ample opportunities for asking questions and dialogue.
