The Buddha often said that the Dharma he taught was to be contemplated and practiced. In our contemporary idiom, this means a deep reflection and internalization of the Dharma. In this program, the Dharma Contemplation unfolds in five distinct meditative phases: engagement with the text as simply words; our felt response to the words; the intellect’s response to the meaning; an exploration into the essence and an intimate engagement with how these words touch us here and now. This holistic experience, which takes place in guided group practice, brings a life and relevance to these teachings even for those completely new to them. Mindfulness and concentration grow as we investigate, layer by layer. As well as offering an opportunity for textual study, the practice is fundamentally relational and supports the development of the relational skills of deep listening and wise speech. Outside of the Contemplations and Q & A, the program will be supported by silent meditation.
