In this study-practice program, we will examine the role of the Five Spiritual Faculties (Faith, Effort/Energy, Mindfulness, Concentration, and Wisdom): what each actually is, how each is cultivated and deployed to overcome obstacles, and how to keep these factors in good harmony. We will discuss the particularly important role of Faith in motivating and powering commitment to Dhamma practice, and how modern western people can overcome their baggage in relationship to this term. Morning sessions will be devoted to learning content and context, and personal reflection in the interest of pragmatic understanding. Afternoons will be devoted to silent insight meditation practice, with some additional guided meditations offered to strengthen particular of the five faculties. There will be an evening dharma talk grounding the day’s learning. This program is intended for students who are interested in strengthening both their theoretical understanding and their established meditation practice.
